Oily skin and its essential care!

What is oily skin?

Unlike dry skin, the glands of oily skin produce more lipids than they need, causing excess sebum secretion. This imbalance can be caused by hormonal imbalance or external factors such as stress and pollution.

The most common symptoms of oily skin are:

  • It has a brighter appearance than other skin types;
  • Thicker texture;
  • Intense oiliness all over the face;
  • Dilated and visible pores;
  • Has a greater tendency to form acne (blackheads and pimples);
  • Even after cleaning, the skin becomes oily again;

How to care for oily skin?

Oily skin is the skin type with the most “myths” - for example, the only way to combat oily skin is by removing the excess oil/sebum it produces.  Wrong! This will only make things worse and the so-called “rebound effect” will occur. When we remove all the oil from our skin, we are directly attacking our skin barrier, which is like a shield that protects the skin from all external aggressions. In other words, the more we remove the oils produced by the skin, the more it will produce as a form of defense, favoring the appearance of acne.

It is very important to understand that sebum is important for the skin, as it resists the penetration of substances and controls the skin microbiome, which needs it in adequate levels.

Therefore, the key word to combat oily skin is “Balance” - the goal should always be to CONTROL oiliness. But how can you do this without drying out your skin?

Choose non-comedogenic formulas, that is, ones that do not clog pores and the use of toners is recommended, due to their astringent action, and exfoliants to unclog pores.

Does oily skin also need hydration?

YES! Oily skin is not synonymous with hydrated skin! It is in this type of skin that it is more difficult to detect signs of dehydration. In fact, excess oiliness can also be a sign of dehydration - rebound effect - and, therefore, the fear of moisturizing the skin.

This is where it is important to know what type of skin you have and what its current condition is. This is the only way to find the product with the ideal formula for your skin. Choosing the wrong product can result in the appearance of pimples, enlarged pores, etc.

Moisturizer helps restore the skin barrier, leaving skin in good condition, with all its hydration and protection factors balanced.
